Valletta Football Club is proud to launch it’s own mobile phone service under the name “VFC Mobile“.

This is yet another first in Maltese football and further adds to the club’s merchandise and projects.

The service will be launched in partnership with Aspider Solutions YOM Ltd. and will be using the radio network of Vodafone whereby customers will be able to enjoy the reliability of the Vodafone radio network as well as the many international roaming partners, that Vodafone has a roaming agreement with, while travelling.

During a press conference held at the Le Merdien, St Julians, club President Victor Sciriha said that this was another important page in the history of the club which was always at the forefront in new ventures to tap the potential of its considerable pool of loyal supporters.

Mr. Sciriha inaugurated the service by making the first call on VFC mobile and announced that there will be special offers for customers who will be joining the VFC mobile community, details of which will be communicated at a later stage.

Customers joining VFC Mobile may retain their existing mobile number or buy a new number. The VFC mobile tariffs are very competitive and amongst the lowest in the market.

The Valletta FC President said that the club would also be launching a competition for its mobile subscribers which will culminate at the end of June where the lucky winner would be taken with the with the team to a club’s away international commitment in Europe.

Victor Sciriha ended by thanking Matthew Mullholland for designing the VFC Mobile logo, Jean Pierre Baldacchino, David Xuereb and Ricky Reeves for their help.

Malcolm Mallia, Director of YOM VFC mobile’s partner in this venture, said that YOM was very excited to be introducing mobile telephony into the sports arena and will be doing this with the biggest football club in Malta which has a such a rich history of successes, and looked forward to yet another clubb success story.

The club’s aim is definitely not to compete with the big operators but to offer trusted rich services to loyal communities like the one Valletta FC has with its fans.

Valletta are making good on their promise to become the first Maltese club to operate their own mobile phone service.

More than a year has elapsed since the Citizens unfurled their mobile phone project but the Premier League leaders now have everything in place to launch the service.

“I’m proud to launch Valletta FC’s new mobile service which is surely a first for Maltese football,” president Victor Sciriha said at the launch of VFC Mobile yesterday.

Describing the mobile service venture as “another important chapter in the history of the club”, Sciriha said Valletta, who have chosen YOM Limited as their technical partners, will be making use of Vodafone’s “reliable” infrastructure.

“Potential VFC Mobile subscribers can retain their current mobile number or apply for a new one,” Sciriha said.

“Our tariffs are among the most competitive in the local market. Furthermore, we have plans to hold a competition among VFC subscribers and the winner will be given the chance to travel with the team for a European match next summer.”

Sciriha stressed that Valletta are committed to offering their VFC subscribers a good service. “A year ago we announced our intention to operate a mobile phone service,” Sciriha said. “It has taken us so long to launch it because we wanted to make sure that we could offer an efficient service. Now it’s the time to implement those plans.

“On Wednesday, I and my fellow committee members will be at the club from 10 a.m. onwards to receive applications for VFC Mobile. I hope that this initiative will be a success for the club and for Maltese football in general. I’ve always felt that the only club who could embark on a project of this magnitude is Valletta FC as our numerous fans are the most fervent in Malta.”

Valletta have set themselves an initial target of 1,000 subscribers over the next few months. Another ‘open day’ at the Valletta FC club is also planned for December 13.

VFC Mobile SIM cards and top-up vouchers can be purchased from several outlets, including Tip Top, L-Amerikan and Brown’s Pharamacies.

Malcolm Mallia, director of YOM Limited, said: “We are proud to be associated with Valletta, a club with a rich history in Maltese football.

“Valletta are willing to penetrate a new market which was previously the domain of big companies like Vodafone and Go. Our intention is certainly not to compete with them but Valletta FC are keen to offer a more focused service to their customers.”
